The Will of Samuel Coward of Ulverston
On the Second day of December 1878 the Will of Samuel Coward late of Ulverston in the County of Lancaster, Hair-Dresser – deceased who died on the 10th day of November, 1878, at Ruthin, in the County of Denbigh, North Wales was proved in Her Majesty’s High Court of Justice in the District Registry attached to the Probate Division thereof at Lancaster by the Oath of
John Woodburne of Upper Brook Street, Ulverston aforesaid, Corn Merchant, one of the Executors therein named he having been first sworn duly to administer.
Power reserved of making the like grant to William John Lunt the other Executor therein named.

This is the last Will and Testament of me
SAMUEL COWARD
Of Ulverston in the County of Lancaster Hair Dresser.
I bequeath to my nephew Thomas Coward and my niece Ann Hutchinson each the legacy or sum of two pounds ten shillings. I bequeath to my niece Isabella Briggs my mahogany Chest of drawers, my silver watch and gold chain. I bequeath to my niece Margaret Taylor my sofa and I bequeath all the residue and remainder of the estate and effects to which I shall be entitled at my decease to my friends William John Lunt of No. 77 Prescot Street, Liverpool, Merchant Tailor and John Woodburne of Upper Brook Street, Ulverston, Corn Merchant. Upon trust after payment of my debts funeral and testamentary expenses to pay and bequeath the residue as follows, namely. To the said Isabella Briggs one fifth part thereof. To the said Margaret Taylor one tenth part thereof. And the remaining seven tenth parts thereof unto and equally between Margaret Jane Williamson, the child of my late nephew Robert Williamson and William Williamson, Bessie Williamson, Isabella Williamson, Annie Williamson and Lucy Williamson, children of my late nephew James Williamson or such of them as being males shall attain twenty one years of age or being females that age or be married first. I direct that my trustees shall apply the whole or so much as they shall think fit of the aggregate annual income of the said seven tenth parts as a common fund towards the maintenance, education, medical attendance and bringing up of such of the children of my said two deceased nephew’s as shall for the time being not be twenty one years of age or not married or not have been married and shall accumulate the unapplied income and add the accumulations to the said seven tenth parts but with power notwithstanding anything hereinbefore contained to the contrary for my trustees at their discretion from time to time to apply in addition to the income such part of the capital of the said seven tenth parts as they shall think fit. And I direct and empower my trustees to allow any part of my personal estate to remain invested in or upon any stocks, shares or other securities upon which the same may be invested at my decease. And I appoint the said William John Lunt and John Woodburne Executors of this my Will and lastly I revoke all prior wills. In writings, whereof I have hereunto set my hand this thirtieth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight.
